25YL Venerable Home to Scholarly Film Criticism Closing After 9 years

25YL (25YearsLater), the independent pop-culture site known for its deep-dive analysis and commitment to quality long-form content, announced today that it will be shutting down its main site after nine years of operation. While the flagship site is closing, 25YL Media will continue to operate, transitioning its extensive archive and future projects to new digital homes and spin-off platforms.

Founded in February 2017 by Andrew Grevas, 25YL began as a passion project inspired by the return of Twin Peaks. Over nearly a decade, it evolved into a prominent platform for hundreds of writers, gaining recognition from major studios and networks for its rejection of “clickbait” in favor of scholarly essays, in-depth reviews, and philosophical think pieces.

“25YL was the dream as a writer a place where quality was the only thing that mattered,” said Andrew Grevas, Founder of 25YL. “Walking away after nine years was not a decision made lightly, but the realities of being a small business have changed. While this specific site is closing, the work and the spirit of what we built will live on through our sister sites and new ventures.”

A New Direction for 25YL Media The closure of the main site marks a strategic pivot rather than a total disappearance. 25YL Media has outlined several avenues where its legacy content and community will continue:

  • The Twin Peaks Archive: The site’s foundational library of Twin Peaks analysis will be preserved and migrated to the 25YL Media Patreon, ensuring these resources remain available to the fandom.
  • Expansion of Spin-off Sites: Independent platforms TVObsessive.com and FilmObsessive.com will continue to feature work from former 25YL editors and writers.
  • Launch of HorrorArchives666.com: 25YL Media will hold a stake in a brand-new horror-driven website, HorrorArchives666.com. The new site will launch with hundreds of articles from the 25YL vault to spark a new movement in horror journalism.
  • Literary Pursuits: Founder Andrew Grevas has confirmed he is currently authoring a new book, inspired by his tenure at the helm of the site.

The editorial team extends its deepest gratitude to the readers and the hundreds of contributors who helped shape the site into a “life-changing experience.”
